"Red Poppies Cafe Du Monde" features vibrant red poppies spilling from a vintage coffee can, their loose, expressive petals contrasting beautifully with the precise lettering of the iconic New Orleans brand. Against a soft blue-gray background with touches of gold, the composition celebrates the interplay between organic botanical forms and graphic typography. A subtle metallic gold wash across the surface catches the light, adding warmth and a gentle shimmer that enhances the painting's nostalgic charm. This intimate 9x12 inch piece is the first in a new vintage European tin series exploring poppies paired with vintage Italian, French, and English food brands.
This painting finds beauty in the contrast of loose gestural brushwork and structured typography, creating a visual conversation between spontaneity and precision. The warm reds and coral tones of the poppies against cool blue-gray create harmonious color balance, while the golden can and metallic accents tie the composition together with vintage appeal. Perfect for kitchens, dining rooms, or workspaceswhere you want charming, approachable art that celebrates simple pleasures—morning coffee, fresh flowers, and the beauty of well-worn familiar things.

About Original Artwork
Paint Media
Denise paints with archival quality acrylic paints including Golden Acrylic Paints and mediums as well as Nova Paints. There can be mixed media here and there such as charcoal, colored pencil and waxed crayon.
Substrate
Denise paints on cradled hardboard and gessoed canvas. Pieces that are 24x36 inches or smaller, are painted on cradled hardboard 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches deep with paint finished edges matching the overall color scheme of the painting.
Larger pieces on canvas are painted while tacked to a large hardboard frame. This way I can still sand away as much as I want with a hard surface backing the painting.
The painting is then removed and reframed on stretcher bars for a more lightweight finished artwork which is easier to ship and easier to hang.
Finish
All artwork have been finished with a clear gloss or semi gloss water-based acrylic polymer varnish with Ultra Violet Light Stabilizers [UVLS] that protects interior acrylic paintings from dust and ultraviolet light.
In the event that you hang your painting in the dining room and it get splattered with spaghetti sauce (believe me this can happen), the painting can be wiped clean to bring it back to it's intended design.
