"Poppies in a Can — Fraise II" lets deep red poppies spread wide across a pale celery-green ground, rising from a vintage French strawberry tin. The petals are built up in thick impasto, each fold outlined in warm salmon and shadowed with teal, so the blooms sit forward from the surface. The open centers are dotted with yellow stamens around sage-green seed heads, while closed buds droop from long stems that cross the panel on a diagonal. Below, the tin's red-orange banner carries a hand-lettered "FRAISE" above painted strawberries and leaves set against a dark ground.
The background is soft and scumbled, with aqua and pink showing through the cream and fine lines scratched into the surface, giving the reds room to breathe. This is the third painting built around the Fraise tin, and it is the loosest and most open of the three. Both the flowers and the label are European in sensibility: unhurried, tactile, and rooted in the pleasure of ordinary beautiful things. It belongs to a series pairing poppies with vintage tins and labels.
Suited to kitchens, dining rooms, or a smaller wall where you want art that feels warm, personal, and alive.

About Original Artwork
Paint Media
Denise paints with archival quality acrylic paints including Golden Acrylic Paints and mediums as well as Nova Paints. There can be mixed media here and there such as charcoal, colored pencil and waxed crayon.
Substrate
Denise paints on cradled hardboard and gessoed canvas. Pieces that are 24x36 inches or smaller, are painted on cradled hardboard 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches deep with paint finished edges matching the overall color scheme of the painting.
Larger pieces on canvas are painted while tacked to a large hardboard frame. This way I can still sand away as much as I want with a hard surface backing the painting.
The painting is then removed and reframed on stretcher bars for a more lightweight finished artwork which is easier to ship and easier to hang.
Finish
All artwork have been finished with a clear gloss or semi gloss water-based acrylic polymer varnish with Ultra Violet Light Stabilizers [UVLS] that protects interior acrylic paintings from dust and ultraviolet light.
In the event that you hang your painting in the dining room and it get splattered with spaghetti sauce (believe me this can happen), the painting can be wiped clean to bring it back to it's intended design.
