"I Am The Author" captures a young girl in a soft pink dress climbing barefoot through tree branches, completely absorbed in her own world. Her face turns away from the viewer—she's lost in the joy of climbing, moving through her moment with confidence and curiosity. Against a background of powder blues, sunny yellows, and peachy tones, typewriter-style text repeats "I am not the character" while bold red script declares "I am the Author." The layered, textured composition celebrates that powerful shift from being a passive participant in someone else's story to becoming the author of your own journey.
What does it mean to be the author of your own life rather than just a character in someone else's script? This painting reminds us that while we can't control everything that happens, we can choose how we respond, move forward, and write our next chapter. The climbing girl embodies this perfectly—she's not asking permission or waiting for direction, she's simply living her story with full ownership and joy. The soft, optimistic palette and playful energy make this piece perfect for bedrooms, home offices, or creative spaces where you want to inspire agency, celebrate personal power, and remember that even when life throws unexpected plot twists, you're still holding the pen.

About Original Artwork
Paint Media
Denise paints with archival quality acrylic paints including Golden Acrylic Paints and mediums as well as Nova Paints. There can be mixed media here and there such as charcoal, colored pencil and waxed crayon.
Substrate
Denise paints on cradled hardboard and gessoed canvas. Pieces that are 24x36 inches or smaller, are painted on cradled hardboard 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches deep with paint finished edges matching the overall color scheme of the painting.
Larger pieces on canvas are painted while tacked to a large hardboard frame. This way I can still sand away as much as I want with a hard surface backing the painting.
The painting is then removed and reframed on stretcher bars for a more lightweight finished artwork which is easier to ship and easier to hang.
Finish
All artwork have been finished with a clear gloss or semi gloss water-based acrylic polymer varnish with Ultra Violet Light Stabilizers [UVLS] that protects interior acrylic paintings from dust and ultraviolet light.
In the event that you hang your painting in the dining room and it get splattered with spaghetti sauce (believe me this can happen), the painting can be wiped clean to bring it back to it's intended design.
